Film Marketing

A big part of my career was spent at Warner Bros. Films where I wrote and produced every tv spot, one sheet, tchatchke, and trailer that was made in-house, and in the process worked on everything from one-off movies like The Salton Sea to blockbuster franchises including the Harry Potter series, the Matrix Series, and the Ocean’s 11 series.

I was also lent out to different divisions within the studio (publicity, promotions, consumer goods, etc.) and was fortunate to see firsthand how a monster entertainment marketing machine works from every angle.

And no, I never met Harry Potter or Neo. But, I did play basketball with George Clooney. He’s not bad.

You Wouldn’t Steal A Car

Yep. I wrote the infamous PSA that has become the ironic icon of hystrionic finger-wagging.

It was 2003, and the entertainment world’s collective hair was on fire about piracy. The studios got together and decided the only thing that could stop this madness was putting a nagging, overwrought video at the front of every legally rented DVD in the world.

I was at Warner Bros. at the time and, for some reason, the assignment came down to me. After a year of pitching concepts and iterating scripts (yes, a full year), the studios finally crowned You Wouldn’t Steal A Car the saviour. It was produced, released, and ended piracy immediately and forever.

The Original

Okay, not quite. But it did get a fair amount of attention (yes, it won awards) and was reproduced all around the world.

The Phenomenom

Twenty+ years and countless parodies later, I got an email from a documentary filmmaker named Nico Delage. He claimed to have been looking for me for years because he was so fascinated by You Wouldn’t Steal A Car and the cultural resonance it has decades after its release that he was making a film about it. Turns out there’s way more to the story than I even realized. You’ll find me at 58:50.

TV Marketing

Later, I worked at a few different agencies promoting television series and creating ad sales content (“We’ve got a bunch of movies/series episodes and some brands that want to be associated with them. How do we do that? Go!”)

Here are some examples that represent approximately 0.0003% of the material I created.

If you love, love, love ad sales content, please visit TiltedCreative.com to see more (I made everything there).
